Sharing experiences through powerful writing and storytelling
My name is Maliha (Mali) and I live in Brooklyn with a handful of friends and an orange cat. I began my journey writing silly skits for my cousins (in Comic Sans MS, of course) and spending my weekends in the YA section at the library. I have been writing for over 15 years in all forms - poetry, fiction, research, opinion, and journalism. For me, storytelling is a way to process my own experiences and emotions. I am constantly inspired by words around me and hope others find meaning and connection in mine!
I never had a brother.
And I never quite understood why my older sister always wanted one. She was very specific about it, too. She wanted an older brother, I suppose so he could watch over her and protect her, as if his imaginary male energy could have shielded her from all the unnecessary hurt that comes with growing up…

He swears
By the book
One hand on his chest
Tap silence tap silence
Too much silence…
We were crazy
We were mentally unfit
We were disordered
We were locked up
We missed our phones and our laptops and our scissors and our razors and our earrings and our calculators…
plastic
what are you but plastic
a cold, hard thing
lifeless on cold, hard tile
making me something
cold and hard
a tin woman
trembling inside…
